Brotherhood Membership

When an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow has truly made the principles of the OA part of their life, they are ready to complete their induction into the Order by “sealing their membership” in the OA by becoming Brotherhood members.

Brotherhood membership is sought by Arrowmen seeking to reaffirm their belief in the high purposes of the order.  Before becoming a Brotherhood member each Arrowman makes a special effort to serve his troop or team.  Each Brotherhood member commits to even more service to Scouting through the Order.

Becoming a Brotherhood member of the Order marks the completion of a member’s induction into the Order of the Arrow.

Brotherhood Eligibility:

To become a Brotherhood member you must:

  • Memorize the signs of OA membership.

  • Advance in your understanding of the Ordeal.

  • Serve your unit for at least ten months since your Ordeal.

  • Plan for service in your OA lodge.

  • Write a letter to the Lodge Chief or Lodge Secretary reviewing your progress in meeting the four challenges above and requesting your desire to seal your membership in the OA by becoming a Brotherhood member.

Sign of Brotherhood Membership:

The sign of the Brotherhood membership is a white sash with a red embroidered arrow enclosed by two red bars.
