Friends of Scouting

Financial resources for the Alabama Florida Council come from an annual Friends of Scouting (FOS) campaign, local United Ways, foundation grants, special events, project sales, investment income, trust funds, bequests, and gifts of real and personal property.

What is Friends of Scouting (FOS)?

The Friends of Scouting is the program that provides businesses, communities, parents and supporters of scouting the opportunity to share in meeting the financial needs of the Alabama Florida Council. Your contribution to Friends of Scouting is not only an investment in the future of young lives. It's an investment in helping to build a strong more productive community to live, work and enjoy.

Over thirty-seven percent of the Alabama Florida Council's operating budget comes from the FOS campaign. The goal for 2008 is to raise $296,100.

What is the money used for?

These funds provide for professional staff supervision, organization of new Scouting units, service for existing units, training of volunteer leaders, and maintenance of council camp. They also help to finance the operation of the local council service center, where volunteer leaders can obtain literature, insignia, advancement badges, and other items vital to the program. In addition, the service center maintains advancement and membership records.
