Powder Horn Training
Powder Horn is a training opportunity designed to expose Venturing Advisors and Boy Scout leaders to resources necessary to operate a successful outdoor, high adventure program. It is based on the eight core requirements and eighteen electives found in the Venturing Ranger program. This action-packed, hands-on outdoor course will:

Introduce you to the skills necessary to operate a high adventure outdoor program, the required certifications, and how to obtain those certifications.
Give you an introduction to: Backpacking; Communication; Conservation Project Development; Cooking; Emergency Preparedness; Expedition Planning; First Aid; Fishing; Plants, Wildlife & Ecology; Wilderness Survival; Land Navigation; Leave No Trace Camping; Life Saving; Mountaineering; Outdoor Living History; Physical Fitness; Shooting Sports; and Working with Teens. (No one has to do any of the activities they feel uncomfortable with.)Identify local resources and consultants for high adventure activities and the Venturing Ranger Award
Provide you with knowledge of the health and safety requirements, rules and regulations of the Boy Scouts of America as they apply to high adventure programs
Provide you with detailed knowledge of the Ranger Award and associated Silver Award requirements
Provide a fun and memorable experience with other Scouting leaders

Course Prerequisites:

Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America
Completed Youth Protection training for Venturing and/or Boy Scouts within the past 12 months
Completed Venturing or Boy Scout Leader Specific Training
Have a current BSA Class III Physical
